How to give a good impression on a first date

If you’re single and ready to flamingo like the beautiful and handsome person you are, there’s a high chance that you’re getting ready to dip your toe into the dating pool. However, it’s no secret that this dating pool isn’t the kind of one that’s crystal clear and has a unicorn floatie ready and waiting for you. Instead, this is the kind of pool that looks like a pile of slush and is infested with sharks. At least, that’s what it seems like in your brain. The dating world isn’t too bad, really. The only thing you need to remember is how to give a good impression on a date…

How to give a good impression on a first date

Make eye contact

There’s nothing weirder than talking to someone who won’t look at you in the eye, so don’t be that creep. Making eye contact not only lets your date know that you are a normal human being, but it also gives them the chance to check out your confident nature. As if that wasn’t enough, most people think that eye contact is pretty attractive, especially if it’s lingering and mysterious. You’ve gotta leave them wanting more, haven’t you?

Put your phone away

Let’s be honest; our phones are our comfort blanket. Most people whip out their phones in awkward situations, and sometimes just pretend to scroll through for the sake of something to distract them. However, there’s nothing more unattractive than being on a date with someone who is on their phone all the time. A date is your chance to fully immerse yourself in a new experience and meet a new person, and you can’t do that when you’re scrolling through your phone and looking at other peoples’ lives.

Don’t just talk about yourself

Although you’re arguably the coolest person you know, it’s best to let your date realize that for themselves – rather than you telling them every few seconds. Awkward silences are inevitable when you meet someone for the first time, but you need to resist the urge to fill that silence with facts and stories about your own life. Ask them questions, learn more about them, and let them tell their own stories about their own life. It’s all about balance, y’all.

Really listen to them

If you have an attractive date in front of you, it can be hard to take your attention away from the fact that they are pretty darn attractive. However, if you spend your whole time drooling over their appearance, you won’t get to learn anything about their personality. So, pull your eyes away from their plump lips and really listen to the person who is sitting opposite you. By listening to them and hearing their story, you can work out whether you connect with them on a deeper level or not. After all, beauty is only skin deep, and you don’t want to get involved with someone who is about as boring as a potato. No offense to the potatoes of the world, of course.

Going on a first date can be scary, and most people don’t know what to expect. However, getting you out of this comfort zone and allowing you the chance to be vulnerable in front of a person that may just steal your heart is one of the best ways to make sure that you’re with the right person.
